God dreams are big dreams

What's Covered

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, and it’s time I wrote about it.

Maturity is the distance of time between when you know you are supposed to do something and the moment you actually do it.

This is a muscle.

Over time it gets stronger and as it does, you become more mature.

This ‘delay’ has unwanted consequences. When you know you should write a book but you spend years arguing with yourself about it, “forgetting” about it, becoming so busy you cannot focus on it, etc — this window opens up pandora’s box.

Years ago, I had an idea that I know (in hindsight) was from God.

At the time, I thought it was just a good idea. This is another area to grow in maturity, by the way. What I didn’t realize at the time is that you can hear from God but not trust that you’re hearing from God. Trust requires fath and that can be a scary thing.

Since the beginning of time, the devil’s most effective secret has not been idolatry or witchcraft. It has been doubt.

Now the serpent was more crafty (subtle, skilled in deceit) than any living creature of the field which the LORD God had made. And the serpent (Satan) said to the woman, “Can it really be that God has said, ‘You shall not eat from any tree of the garden'?”

Genesis 3:1-2

You will know you're facing spiritual resistance against a God-idea by the nature of your thoughts:

  • Can it really be?
  • Did God actually say it?
  • What if I'm wrong?

Doubt kills.

More specifically: doubt that is listened to — you can have doubt and still have faith — doubt that is counseled, listened to, and trusted is what kills the calling on your life.

Anyways…

I got to the starting line of following through on this idea, then I backed out. Call it what you want, but mostly it was because of insecurity. Insecurity is a form of pride when you drill down into it. It doesn’t feel like it in the moment, but insecurity is when you believe what you think about yourself more than what God thinks (and says) about you.

This was several years ago and to be honest I hadn’t thought about it until this weekend. A pastor at my church taught on the value of obedience and I started examining areas where I was not obedient; this example from years ago came to mind.

The more I dug into it, the more realizations I had.

When you look around the marketplace, there are dozens of initiatives that match almost identically the blueprint God gave me in 2018. Some of them are being run by really great friends who are changing the world.

While examining it this morning, God spoke to me and said there was nothing to worry about. That was comforting, but the next statement I heard is what caused me to sit down and write:

“If you do not do it, I will find another.”

But his heart is to use YOU. To use ME. And I was reminded again that maturity — in life and in Christ — is really the distance from when you know you are called to something and the moment you actually do something about it.

You can only run for so long before God will find another.

But even after He does, it does not mean that you have lost the calling. You simply have to re-position yourself back into a place where the following is true: you believe what God thinks about you more than you believe what you feel about yourself in the moment.

This is a call to arms for those of you who are in positions of influence. That influence is not of your own design. Deuteronomy 8:18 says “He [God] is the one who gives you the power to be successful (NLT).”

That means my influence was given to me.

My wealth was given to me.

My name was given to me.

And my resourcefulness was given to me.

If it does not scare you, even a little bit, it might not be from God. Dreams that are “GOD DREAMS” challenge your own ability, which means you can't achieve them on your own.

That is a good thing.

Pick up the dream and run with it.

You will know when it is time.
